~ n an arrangement in grammar in which one simple sentence contains two or more n phrases that are used in the same way and describe the same thing. For example, in the sentence `The defendant, a woman of thirty, denies kicking the policeman' the two phrases `the defendant' and `a woman of thirty' are in apposition.
